MENTAL HEALTH SCREENING AND COUNSELING
Life can be challenging, but you are not alone. At South Beach Medical Associates, our staff usually provide screening, counseling and management to basic mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, may seek referral to mental health therapist if counseling needed beyond talk therapy. For major and complicated psychiatric illness you may need to be referred to psychiatrist. Motivated and mild substance abuse could be managed and varies on each patient such as tobacco and mild alcohol abuse. For those patients, we offer flexible schedules and provide compassionate, whole-person, patient-centered care in a way that consistently overcomes economic and cultural barriers.
Teenagers and Adult ADHD
If you or your child have been diagnosed already and taking a stimulant, we can refill your your medication. If there is no prior diagnosis, you will need to fill out either school questionnaire and for adults will require Adult ADHD Self Report Scale (ASRS-v1.1) Symptoms Checklist. Please be prepared for longer office visit for screening.
Mood Disorders
Although we are living in the sunshine states, Florida ranks 7th in the nation for prevalence of mental health and substance abuse. Depression is a major contributor to mortality, morbidity, disability, and economic costs in the United States. Women are more likely to have depression than men. Hormonal imbalance and occasionally there are medications which can exacerbate and highlights sadness. It is generally often overlooked. Patient can have a broad spectrum of mood disorders -dysthymia, atypical depression, mixed depression and anxiety bipolar disorder are prevalent. We emphasize on the importance to screen patients during their visits.
